The Surprise Letter from Shiraishi Mai to Hashimoto Nanami
After Nanamin (Hashimoto Nanami) sang her solo song, Naimononedari (ないものねだり) during the encore of her graduation concert on February 20, 2017, Maiyan (Shiraishi Mai) surprised her with a letter, which lead to an emotional moment between the two around the rest of the members and over 35,000 fans in the audience.

Happy birthday, and also congratulations on your graduation.
The five and a half years I’ve spent in Nogizaka were five and a half years besides Nanamin. You and I are from the same year, and even got to be besides each other. Before I even knew it, Nanamin became the best partner for me.
We got laugh so many times when it came to nonsensical stories, and even shed tears together from sad and frustrating moments. There were many things that I only talk to Nanamin about, but I was really happy with how you always took it warmly and listened. I respect Nanamin from the bottom of my heart and being able to have met a girl named Hashimoto Nanami is what I am most prideful of in my life.
Thank you for bringing happiness to everyone for five and a half years. From now on, I hope you walk on the most awesome life in your way. If there’s something we’re able to do, let’s talk about it ok? When that time comes, no matter where it’ll be, I’ll come running.

Nogizaka46′s Ikuta Erika “Natural Hero” (Eng Translation)
Ikuta Erika, member of Nogizaka46, had began stepping into musical world. Romeo and Juliet was held on Jan to Mar 2017, and Les Miserables (can be referred as LeMise) started on May 25, in which these two are considered as a big musical play.
Ikuta: “When I was in elementary, LeMise was doing theater play for so many times, and that was when I started to aim of becoming a musical actress. Acting like a farmer, or prostitute, things like that excites me because those are really different from my character.
In LeMise’s rehearsals, we do voice exercise. Using music as a background, we are slowly releasing our voice going to crescendo one by one, which makes a tremendous loud volume. There are proper steps for letting our voice out. I think LeMise’s best appeal is that when we let our voice out at the same time, it produces a powerful loud and thick voice.
Cosette has an image of an obedient woman, but actually she is much more aggressive than what you think. Holding onto past, there are so many worlds that she wants to explore. My role is Cosette, and as I began knowing her, my perspective has also changed.
It is a challenge for me to deliver Cosette as fresh to audience as I know already what will happen in this scene, and so on.
I was told by the director that I need to show more facial expressions. Showing happy and troubled expressions isn’t enough. I need to explore more.
I do get nervous so much that I wanted to crouch down in fear and people around me is telling me “It’s okay”. Somehow, I’m able to act as if I’m okay.
People often said that I don’t look troubled at all. I think it’s probably because I’ve already experienced piano competitions since I was a child. Getting nervous actually shortens our life! (lol).”
Ikuta: “I am soprano, but it is fun to think of how can I produce a different tone from my tone.
When I realized that I love singing, I decided to be musical actress. I appeared on a stage as a child actress years ago. Even more, Nogizaka46 gained popularity and was able to maintain it after its debut. I was given a chance to be a center.
I entered Nogizaka46 because I want to be an idol. I wonder if standing in a stage as an idol is same with standing in a stage as a musical actress. It is different from what I had imagined and there were times that I was troubled. But through various experiences, I was able to express myself. If I had not entered Nogizaka46, Romeo and Juliet and Les Miserables might have become like those on the old days.”
Nogizaka46’s Takayama Kazumi previously said, “Whenever Ikuchan appears in a variety show, she’s like a hero.” Ikuta is natural hero, Cosette and Juliet really fits her. However, in the future, she might need to put down her innocence in order to become a full actress.
Ikuta: “In the future, I would like to try having role like “Do you even play such role?” or “We have same aspect!”. For the sake of that, what I can do for now is to build a flexible character and since there are many different casts, I will watch and learn from them first.
I have just entered the musical world, and I think it depends on my power and motivation whether I will advance or not. It’s been my dream of becoming an actress in a stage after all, so I will improve my power more.”
